The short version

This app does not collect anything about you. It cannot: the app is built without the Android INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable of sending data anywhere. Everything you write in it — your notes, highlights, bookmarks and reading progress — stays on your phone.

You do not create an account. There is no login, no sign-up, no email address, no profile. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no third-party advertising or measurement SDKs of any kind.

What the app stores, and where

The app keeps the following in a database in its own private storage area on your device:

This information is written to your device only. It is not uploaded, synced to a server, shared with us, or shared with anyone else. We have no server that receives it, and no way to read it. If you uninstall the app, this data is deleted with it.

The Bible translations, commentaries and reference works the app uses are shipped inside the app itself and are read from your device. Using them involves no network request and no record of what you looked up.

Why the app has no internet access

You do not have to take our word for this. An Android app must declare every permission it uses, and Google Play publishes that list on the app’s store page. Steadfast & Rooted Study Bible declares these permissions and no others:

Permission What it is for
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Showing your reading plan reminder, if you set one up
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Restoring your reminder schedule after you restart your phone
WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Required by Android’s standard background-task scheduler, which the app uses to deliver reminders on time

INTERNET is absent from that list. Without it, Android blocks the app from opening any network connection at all.

Android’s own backup

This is the one way app data can leave your phone, and it is worth being clear about.

The app allows Android Auto Backup, which is a feature of the Android operating system rather than of this app. If you have device backup switched on in your Google account settings, Android may include this app’s data — including your notes and highlights — in the encrypted backup it makes to your own Google Drive. That backup belongs to you and is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. We never receive it and cannot access it.

If you would rather this did not happen, you can turn device backup off in Settings → Google → Backup on your phone, or exclude this app there. The app works exactly the same either way.

Google Play

The app is distributed through Google Play. Google collects its own information about installs and, if your device is set to send them, anonymous crash reports and basic performance data. As the developer we can see this only in aggregate — for example, a count of installs, or a stack trace from a crash — and never in a form that identifies you. This collection is Google’s, described in Google’s Privacy Policy, and it happens whether or not you open the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since it collects nothing from any user, there is nothing to delete on request — uninstalling the app removes everything it ever stored.

Your rights

Data protection law, including the GDPR, gives you rights to access, correct, export and erase personal data held about you, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Those rights apply against whoever holds your data. We hold none: there is nothing for us to produce, correct or erase, because nothing about you ever reaches us. Your data is already entirely in your hands — it is on your device, and the section below explains how to remove it.

How your data is kept secure

The app’s database is written to its private storage directory, a location Android reserves for that app alone. The Android sandbox prevents other installed apps from reading it, and on any modern Android device that storage is covered by the device’s own full-disk or file-based encryption, unlocked by your screen lock.

Because nothing is transmitted, the usual risks that a privacy policy has to address — data in transit being intercepted, a server being breached, a cloud database being misconfigured — do not arise here. There is no transmission, no server, and no cloud database. The security of your notes rests on the security of your own device.

Data retention and deletion

Your content is kept on your device for as long as you keep the app, because it is yours and the app has no reason to discard it. Nothing is retained anywhere else, because nothing is sent anywhere else. We operate no servers holding user data and therefore have no retention schedule to apply, and no copies to purge.

You can delete your data at any time, without asking us:

There is no account to close and no deletion request to submit, because there is no account and no data of yours in our possession. If you have also enabled Android’s device backup, see the section above for how to remove the copy held in your own Google Drive.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy — for example, if a future version adds an optional sync feature — this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
